For years, we lived in the fast-paced, relentless rhythm of northern Italy. Carlo was a lifelong entrepreneur, running everything from a transport service for youth with special needs to a bustling bar near Milan, and later a traditional newsstand on the Ligurian coast. Gloria spent her days immersed in numbers as a corporate accountant in the heart of Milan, traveling rarely, bound to the predictable schedules of city life. We were working, surviving, but not truly living.
Then, in a single moment, everything changed.

Gloria was the victim of a brutal street assault in Milan. It left her with severe physical trauma, leading to two long years of immobility, complex surgeries, and prosthetics. It was a dark, testing time that shook our world to its core. But as we sat through those long months of recovery, a profound realization washed over us: life is incredibly fragile, and it is far too short to be wasted in a routine that doesn’t feed your soul.
We promised each other that once Gloria could walk again, we would live fully, without compromises. We wanted the sun, the therapeutic breeze of the sea, and a lifestyle dictated by nature, not by alarm clocks.
That promise brought us straight to Ugento, a hidden gem in the deep south of Salento, Puglia.
